Our four year old, in all her glory. We managed to sneak these in while grandma was still here helping with new baby sis. Thank goodness we did because then the weather decided to take a turn for the snow...blah! Not allowed in February!

THINKING ABOUT BOOKING A FAMILY SESSION? READ THIS FIRST...

Hey Momma,

Can I just say that I am where you are right now? I see the beauty and chaos of raising little people. You love your children, but you also want to run away to the Bahamas for a month (maybe that’s just me…)

Getting your family pictures taken is STRESSFUL. Oh yeah, I know it. Getting everyone clean and dressed and happy for pictures can make you want to pull your hair out. But wait! You have to be ready for pictures too…UGH. Don’t let Pinterest fool you! It’s not family pictures unless at least one child is throwing a tantrum.

But deep down I can see that you want to remember. You want to remember those sweet dimples, their curly q’s or just their sweet childlike curiosity about the world. You want to remember the way they cling to you when something is scary. You want to remember what their hugs feel like FOREVER.

If there is one thing I want you to know right off the bat it is this – I DO NOT expect your children to sit still and pose for me. I want them to be themselves! And if that means being busy/wild/shy/goofy/energetic, then bring it on! I feel where you are coming from, and past clients have felt that way too, but what I’ve found is that the images my clients love the most are the candid ones, where they are playing and making memories.

Parents – I expect you to come ready to play with your kids! Instead of telling them that they are getting their pictures taken, tell them that they are going to this sweet field/park/trail etc to play as a family, and that a friend with her camera will be there. Emphasize that it will be fun! Something I know for sure is that tense parents = tense kiddos. So final piece of advice? LET GO, and go play with your kids. I’ll take care of the rest.

SUN DRENCHED WINTER FAMILY SESSION | PORTLAND FAMILY PHOTOGRAPHER

I really don't know how this kept happening, but we got SUN for this session. Not just dry cloudy overcast, but SUN!!! I think it rained almost all week leading up to this session, so that had to be a good sign, right? Turns out it was. I'm sorry if I talk about the weather a lot, but it kind of rules my world during the busy season. Rain or not to rain, that is the question eh, Portland?

This family was an absolute blast to photograph! Jenn and I connected about a year ago, and were able to make this session happen last month, and I'm so glad we did! It was a bit chilly for our session, but they handled it with grace and running in place between groupings. Gotta keep the blood flowing! Chilly!
