OREGON COAST FAMILY PHOTOGRAPHER | OREGON COAST BEACH PORTRAITS

So, who wants to come to the beach for their senior/family pictures?? Shooting at the beach is so much fun and so relaxed. The Oregon coast has so many hidden gems and treasures, such a perfect backdrop for any session.

We took our annual end-of-school-year trip to the beach this May. Weather is always a gamble when heading to the Oregon coast, but we're ok with that. The first day just rainnnneed and rained, but you know what? It was worth it for the sun we got on the last day. The kids played and played. By the time lunch and nap rolls around, they are WORN OUT and sleep like rocks. The beach really is the best place!

Since the weather was going to be nice on the last day, I busted out my camera and got these shots of the kids. When shooting at the beach I highly recommend wearing light colored neutrals, like white, cream, gray, beige, kacki, etc. Denim can work too. As always, I'm a BIG fan of dresses. My 3 year old had SOOO much fun twirling and running around in her play dress. The hat was a bit hit too. And of course, bare feet are a must :)

PORTLAND FAMILY PHOTOGRAPHER | PORTLAND SPRING MINI SESSION | WHITE LACE DRESS

Norah was so sweet! We took these on a beautiful spring day in one of my favorite open fields. I could shoot with a green backdrop allllll day. It's my favorite!The sun was peaking through the tall evergreen trees behind us, such a welcome sight in rainy Portland. We decided to test the bubble machine, and it was a big hit! With any kids really the goal is to help them forget that the photographer is even there. Everything just becomes so much more natural and laid back. Bubbles, favorite stuffed animals etc are great distractions from the strange crazy lady holding the camera. Isn't her dress just darling? On sale (clearance?) from Gap. Score!

PORTLAND FAMILY PHOTOGRAPHER | JUST THE KIDS MINI SESSION

Oh these boys were just the sweetest! They were just content to run and play allll day. One of my favorite games to play with kiddos is the 'high-five' game. I line them up somewhere down the path/trail, and then have them run towards me (whilst holding my camera, of course) and their job is to just run and give me a high - five. Some kids like to make it a race, some just like to run over and over again. Either way, it produces some of the ear to ear grins as well as some great action shots. No kid ever wants to hear "now stay here and sit still!" So we do the exact opposite, and it works wonders.

It had been raining a lot (big surprise, Portland!) in the days leading up to the session, so we planned for some good puddle splashing at the end of the session. The boys could hardly believe we were telling them to actually splash in the puddles! Kids dream come true right there! It ended up being more like mud-splashing, but who cares, right? :)
